MOUNT ST. ELIAS
Mount St. Elias rises 18,008 feet high, in the Wrangell Mountain range on the U.S.-Canadian border between the South West Yukon Territory and South East Alaska; the fourth highest peak of North America.
Co-owners/brother and sister, Zach Henry and Jessie Kolesar grew up in Sterling, Alaska. They both ventured out of Alaska for a short time and eventually Alaska was calling them home. St. Elias was opened in the summer of 2008. Zach and Jessie operate the business, alongside 35 amazing employees and managers that keep St. Elias running all year long. The Kenai Peninsula is by far the best little place to live in the world. We are proud to offer the finest food and ales in Alaska and to serve our amazing community! St. Elias Brewing is far from the lofty summit of Mt. St. Elias in the Wrangell mountain range. However, Mt. St. Elias contributed greatly to the rich history of Alaska. The St. Elias Mountains were named by explorer Vitus Bering (1681-1741) who was selected in 1725 by Peter I to explore far North East Siberia. The summit of Mt. St. Elias was the first piece of Alaska mainland to catch Vitus Bering’s eye. That same day happened to be the feast day of the Saint Elias. A feast day is the date a saint or holy event is commemorated, and is often times the date of his or her death. The area where Vitus Bering made landfall was named for Elias. Eventually the mountain too came to be called Mount St. Elias. |
